Golden Visa – Obtaining a Residence Permit by Investing in Portugal

The reviewed immigration law permits foreign nationals to obtain Portuguese residence permit, known as a "Golden Visa", if they make certain investments in the country.

The general principles are:

• Transfer capital equal to or greater than € 1.000.000
  
• Create 30 jobs or more
  
• Acquisition of real estate of a value equal or greater than € 500.000
  
• Investments must be maintained for 5 years

10% cap company tax on investments over € 3.000.000

There still (9 November 2012) no concrete legislation but it is being proposed that new investments over three million euro have a company tax cap at 10% - currently it is 25% over profits!
