Mosquito trap representatives
Following the increase of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in Madeira since 2005, ZINO has secured representation of Biogents mosquito traps for Portugal including Madeira as of October 2012.
Information and update on 2 confirmed Dengue cases by autochthonous infection on 3rd October 2012 can be consulted here.

Mosquito Aedes aegypti - Dengue Fever vector - Madeira
Madeira, as many countries (see WHO map), detected Aedes aegypti mosquito in 2004/2005, the vector for Dengue Fever.
Although some sporadic reports of Dengue Fever by travellers arriving to Madeira already infected have been reported in the past, on 3rd October 2012, the first autochthonous transmission of Dengue was confirmed by the local health authorities.

Mosquito Aedes aegypti traps |
Through research we have identified suppliers of traps which have proven scientific efficiency at reducing mosquito population at various locations across the world (research about the efficiency of Biogents traps can be seen in our research section).
Source: BG-Sentinel / Biogents
The two examples above demonstrate the efficiency of the BG-Sentinel (the professional trap and predecessor of Biogents Mosquitaire and Biogents Mosquitito traps) compared to other mosquito traps and "human target", even without the use of CO2. The graph to the right measures "biting presure" in "bites per hour" on a human volunteer and compares areas without Biogent traps compares to areas without traps. In this study in Cesena - Italy, the reduction in biting pressure of the Ae. albopictus during August is above 85%!
As of October 2012 we represent and supply Biogents units for retail as well as replacements.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish more information or would like to discuss trade rates as well as alternative units which cover larger areas.
Mosquito traps are just one contribution to reduce the concentration of mosquitoes - prevention is essential.

Placement of traps
Biogents traps can be placed anywhere, be it on a verandah, outside or even inside.
Mosquitoes prefer protected locations, away from direct sunlight and wind. Mosquito fly upwind towards their target, as the wind carries the scent to them - try to place the traps between you and the mosquitoes!
Consult placement of traps.

Mosquito Monitoring Programme |
The Mosquito Monitoring Programme is a service based on global best practices for monitoring Aedes aegypti vector mosquito activity, both in the larval stage through use of ovitraps and actual mosquito with Biogents Mosquitaire traps, scientifically proven to be the most efficient at capturing the Dengue and Chikungunya fever mosquito vector, Aedes aegypti.
The monitoring programme allows both private and public entities to take preventative measures to monitor, control and take timely actions rather than trying to react to a Dengue or Chikungunya fever outbreak.

Prevention is essential in reducing mosquito population and bites
These are all tools which everyone can use to reduce the Aedes aegypti mosquito population and potential transmission of diseases including dengue fever. Aedes aegypti |
